It is easy to say: "Don’t Waste Your Life", but what does it mean: to waste your life? How to determine that the things that I am engaged in are wasteful or not? What are the occasions and times when I do something useless, and something meaningful? How can that be defined?
These are serious questions which deserve serious evaluation, and the topic is extremely important for all people, regardless of their age. A conference dedicated to answering these questions took place in Sacramento on June 1-3 with about 400 youth present, 100 of which were from out of state. The conference speakers were well-known pastors from Ukraine.
“It’s been a long time since I had such rich spiritual nourishment”—said one of the conference coordinators. “I was preparing this conference for the youth, but since the beginning of the conference, God kept addressing my heart.”
Truly, it was a wonderful conference. “The tragedy of a wasted life, and the glory of a life spent in significance” – that was what Valeriy Antonyuk, the President of the Evangelical Christian-Baptists Union, was speaking about taking examples of two Biblical characters: Abraham and his nephew Lot.
The theme was followed by Aleksandr Savich who is a head of pastoral faculty of the Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary. “What exactly should the life be spent on, so that it would not be wasted?” –this was the question that was probably asked by every person who seriously thought about his life, and many people try to find an answer to.
Mykola Romanyuk, pastor-teacher of the church in Irpen continued this theme with a seminar “Enemies on the Path of a Significant Life.”
The final two seminars—“How to break free from a half-empty routine?” and “Biography of a man of God as an example of life not wasted”, as the titles indicate, offered practical steps to a lasting change. Pastors leading these seminars, Vladimir Omelchuk and Nicolay Skopich, shared personal testimonies, their search, discoveries, and their decisions made as a result of searching the Word of God.
It is impossible to paraphrase the content of the seminars. Paraphrase would ruin it. It is better to personally view everything, being alone with self and God who speaks through the speakers and the Holy Spirit with our inner man. Perhaps the seminars recordings taken in faith will change your life and mine, and will help to not waste it, but to dedicate it to something real, lasting, and eternal.
