Two days before Passover, on the eve of His suffering at Calvary, Jesus Christ privately taught His disciples on the Mount of Olives, answering the difficult questions that concerned them. Struck by His foreboding words about the destruction of the majestic Jerusalem Temple, the disciples asked, “Tell us, when will this happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus began His answer with a warning: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:3–5, NKJV).
Aware that His earthly journey was nearing its end, Christ cautioned His disciples about the challenges and dangers ahead. These were not only visible threats, like the severe persecution faced by early Christians, but an even greater unseen danger: deception. This subtle and treacherous danger would prove to be incredibly destructive to the faith.
As the early apostolic Church grew, heresies began to spread. The Apostle Paul mentions those who preach “another Jesus whom we have not preached” (2 Corinthians 11:4) and expresses his astonishment to the Galatians, saying, “I marvel that you are turning away so soon . . . to a different gospel” (Galatians 1:6).
Over the 2,000 years of Christianity’s existence, deception and heresy have not diminished; they have only multiplied. Many seekers searching for God’s path fall prey to these deceptions and are lost. Even Christians who have followed Christ faithfully for years can be ensnared. They may convince themselves they are adhering to Christ’s teachings by reading His Word and living by it, yet even well-known cults like the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons claim the same devotion. Thus, Christ’s admonition to “take heed that no one deceives you” remains as relevant and vital today as it was in His time.
This is why apologetics is essential for the modern Church. As a branch of theology, it equips believers to defend the Christian faith against “another Jesus” and “a different gospel” that mask the enemy’s intent to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10)—to steal the true meaning of Scripture, kill spiritual life, and ultimately condemn souls.
Driven by this mission, a group of dedicated theologians from around the world established the International Biblical Apologetics Association (IBAA). This unique apologetics ministry helps believers discern truth from error (Proverbs 24:11; 1 John 4:1–3; Jude 3; Ephesians 4:14). The IBAA’s founder and director, Dr. Igal German, lives in Chicago and teaches Bible courses at Moody Theological Seminary. Dr. German also serves as an assistant to Dr. Michael Brown. His research focuses on the Hebrew Bible, New Testament, biblical and modern Hebrew, Israel’s history, and biblical interpretation. The IBAA’s international team operates in three languages: English, Russian, and Hebrew.
Amidst the erosion of Christian values in Western nations, the IBAA offers an educational platform to study the essentials of biblical faith. The IBAA fosters a love for Scripture, promotes biblical literacy, and strives for unity among believers based on sound doctrine.
The IBAA provides an extensive range of materials through lectures, seminars, discussions, and debates on topics such as:
- the importance of apologetics for believers today
- the accuracy and truth of Scripture
- God as revealed in the Bible
- Jesus Christ as the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world
- the divinity and role of the Holy Spirit
- the relationship between Israel and the Church, combating antisemitism, addressing false theories that reject God’s plan for the Jewish people, and a dual-covenant theology
- practical Christian living and guidance for those ensnared by cults such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, and others
The IBAA’s Ministries:
- international online events
- partnership with local communities in the U.S.
- educational resources for pastors
- Bible courses, seminars, and conferences
- prayer for Israel and the persecuted Church
